Maidenhead Arts

Maidenhead and District Arts Council (MAC) was formed in 1977 by a group of people who thought that the arts generally were being neglected in the town. The belief, then and now, was that things can be achieved by working together that cannot be done separately. The main founder members were Jack Widgery, Michael Bowley, Martin Kempton, Heather Butters, Marjorie Lee, Sarah Waller, Philip Love, Len Reynolds, David Lunn, Josephine Wilding and Rudi Sheldon.

The main aim was to find suitable premises in Maidenhead which could be adapted as an Arts Centre. Many schemes later, and with the help of Lottery Funding, Norden Farm Centre for the Arts was built.

In memory of all the people who supported the idea of an Arts Centre, with hard-work and fund-raising, Maidenhead Arts Council member groups staging events at Norden Farm receive a substantial discount.

Projects completed over the years include sculpture and poetry competitions, the results of which can be seen in the town – the sculpture The Boy and Boat in the High Street and the Tribute to the Thames stone plaque on the river bank near Boulters Lock.

Recent projects include our involvement in the Arts Bursary awards run by the RBWM, the Festival (Carnival) and the setting up of this website.

Maidenhead and District Arts Council is a registered charity number 277100. We are grateful to recieve grants for specific projects from the Louis Baylis (Maidenhead Advertiser) Charitable Trust.
